You replay the recovery of the USS Heinlein, which was under the command of Captain Sulu when it got lost under suspicious circumstances in the 145 Trianguli area while on a classified mission.
The main reason for simulating the incident is to ascertain if the rescue mission is a viable alternative for the Kobayashi Maru training mission for space cadets at Starfleet Academy.
