Pokémon Heart & Soul is a complete, open-source GBA ROM hack that faithfully demakes the Johto and Kanto regions from HeartGold/SoulSilver onto the Modern Emerald decompilation. This fully playtested adventure features the classic storyline reimagined with following Pokémon, a dynamic day/night system, HGSS music, toggleable mechanics (physical/special split, Fairy type), and Generation 1-3 Pokémon plus their later evolutions. Version 1.2.1 includes built-in Nuzlocke and Randomizer challenge modes, 16 gym leader rematches, the Battle Frontier, customizable shiny rates, and extensive quality-of-life improvements like HM-free field moves and quick-catch prompts, delivering a polished, community-driven experience that honors the originals while providing modern conveniences for all playstyles.

Storyline

A young trainer from New Bark Town receives their first Pokémon and embarks on an unforgettable journey through the Johto region, where ancient legends whisper from sacred towers and mysterious islands. With a faithful Pokémon companion following close behind, you'll traverse a vibrant world brought to life with a dynamic day/night system, HGSS-inspired music, and diverse wild encounters as you collect eight Gym Badges and forge your path as a Pokémon Champion.

Along the way, you'll confront a criminal organization seeking to reclaim past glory, encounter mysterious individuals tied to the region's legendary myths, and uncover the secrets hidden within Johto's ancient ruins. From roaming beasts that challenge you across the land to unique characters like a dedicated researcher tracking elusive Pokémon, your choices and progression shape the world around you—unlocking new encounters, rematches, and opportunities at your own pace.

After conquering the Johto League, the adventure expands into the Kanto region for a full postgame saga featuring eight additional Gyms, two Safari Zones, and countless legendary Pokémon to discover. With 16 Gym Leaders offering rematches, the complete Emerald Battle Frontier integrated into your journey, and modern enhancements like toggleable difficulty modes and quality-of-life improvements, Heart & Soul delivers a faithful demake that honors the classic experience while empowering trainers to write their own legend.
